  READ BANDITS STORY HERE ...

Many of you remember Bandit, he was suppose to be Marks trail horse but after multiple vets, farriers and on/off lameness, he was to be a companion/light kids riding horse only. (read what happened to Bandit below...view pictures)

Bandit before he left Dream Equine Therapy Center...

Bandit's Story Continued: We put thousands of dollars into vet care, farriers, tried shoes and finally after a year of barefoot trimming his feet were balanced and free of cracks. He was pasture and light riding sound. He was a body condition score of 6 when we adopted him out and mind you he was a very easy keeper. We advertised him as such and found what we thought was a good home.

This lady claimed to run a kids camp and has religion all over her website. She has had Bandit since Feb 8, 2010 and recently wanted to return him. She moved him to another barn a week ago. Something in my gut and some things that were said told me I better go see him right away. We had placement for Bandit at another kids camp during the summer and possibly another adopter.
I was in complete shock when I saw him. He is a body condition score of 3 and is lame in two of what were his good feet and sore in all four feet. He has deep cracks all the way to his coronary band. One heel is almost completely off. They also have been riding him in this condition. He obviously cannot be adopted like this and will now be back in rehab for over a year due to this womans inproper care and neglect.

The first two pics are of Bandit at the end of Jan before he was adopted. He was hairy but you can tell in good body condition.
The next pics are of today, a short four months later. How could someone do this to a horse????

People wonder why my contracts are so strict. This horse was gone for a short 4 months and his rehab will take again well over a year. Bandit is only 6 years old. He has been starved twice in his life now. I would really like people to start taking some responsibility for their actions and their animals. Due to my strict contract, this woman will be responsible for all of his vet, farrier and feed bills over his rehab period.

People can think bad of myself or DETC for making this woman accountable for her actions. That is what we are here for. Bandit should never have seen another bad day in his life and DETC is here to enforce that. That is why we became a nonprofit. That is why we rescue all these horses/foals and keep up with them.

I thank all of you for your support in the terrible things we have to deal with everyday!!
